2019 Cal State Omaha Poll – Week 4

Just two teams remain undefeated in D1 baseball and both are ranked in the Cal State Omaha college baseball poll. The Arizona State Sun Devils Jumped from 24 to 16 while NC State moved up from 25 to 17.

Some minor shuffling occurred at the top of the poll with Vandy and UCLA remaining No. 1 and 2.

Three SEC teams moved into the rankings with South Carolina (25), Texas A&M (22) and Mississippi State (21) making their debut this week.

Making room for those three were Cal State Fullerton, Georgia Tech and Duke who all tumbled out of the rankings. The Titans fell the furthest going from 15th last week to out of the poll completely this week.

Records are through games completed March 10th.

1. Vanderbilt: 13-3 (last week 1)
One loss came at the hands of Illinois State on the second game of a double header
2. UCLA: (last week 2)
Strong showing in the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic keeps the Bruins at No. 2
3. Florida State: 13-1 (last week 4)
FSU undefeated no more losing to Virginia Tech on Saturday.
4. Oregon State: 12-1-1 (last week 5)
Going 2-0-1 in the Seattle tournament moved the Beavers up but the real shake up will come after next weekend when OSU travels south to take on UCLA at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
5. Texas Tech: 11-3 (last week 7)
Going 5-0 on the week with two wins vs SDSU and three against and the Red Raiders get a bump into the top 5.
6. Stanford: 12-3 (last week 8)
Four game series with Texas and the Cardinal take three out of four.
7. Georgia: 14-2 (last week 10)
Although the competition for the Bulldogs was not stellar (Alabama State, Jacksonville State and Presbyterian) they did go 5-0 and move up a few spots.
8. Tennessee: 15-1 (last week 11)
It was bound to happen. The Vols took their first loss of the season on SUnday to Fresno State but look strong to open up SEC play vs Auburn next week.
9. Ole Miss: 12-3 (last week 9)
Lost to ECU mid-week and a sweep of UAB at home over the weekend and the Rebels hold steady at No. 9
10. Michigan: 9-4 (last week 4)
Losing to Long Beach State and giving the Dirtbags their first victory of the season and then dropping two of three out in LA for the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic is not the formula to stay in the top 5.
11. Clemson: 12-3 (last week 18)
Clean sweep of UNC to open SEC play is a strong statement for the Tigers to move up multiple spots.
12. North Carolina: 12-4 (last week 6)
Tar Heels got swept at Clemson over the weekend. Tough team but getting swept to open ACC play is not a good start.
13. Arkansas: 12-2 (last week 12)
Splitting a home weekend series to Louisiana Tech is not a back breaker but does move the Hogs down one.
14. East Carolina: 8-4 (last week 13)
Quality mid-week win at Ole Miss and a weekend sweep of Marist and the Pirates drop one spot after the movement of others in the top 10.
15. LSU: 11-4 (last week 14)
LSU split the weekend series in Baton Rouge with Cal and drop one spot.
16. Arizona State: 15-0 (last week 24)
One of two undefeated teams in college baseball. Beat Cal State Fullerton and swept Xavier.
17. NC State: 15-0 (last week 25)
The Pack stays perfect opening ACC play and sweeping Pitt to move up in the poll.
18. TCU: 9-5 (last week 16)
We won’t kill the Frogs for losing to Long Beach State but they drop a couple of spots.
19. Coastal Carolina: 13-3-1 (last week 22)
Swept Wake Forest in a mid-week tilt, tied Oregon State and beat Washington this week. The Chants are for real.
20. Florida: 13-5 (last week 17)
The Gators beat an in-state team mid-week and swept Yale. They still lost to Florida Gulf Coast and drop a spot.
21. Mississippi State: 15-1 (last week unranked)
The Bulldogs ripped through a 5-0 week with a sweep over Maine over the weekend and debut at No. 21.
22. Texas A&M: 15-3 (last week unranked)
The Aggies enter the poll with some juice bnut this week vs. Dallas Baptist and a weekend series vs. Vandy at home could prove if A&M deserves to stay in the poll or possibly move up.
23. Louisville: 11-4 (last week 23)
The Cards didn’t do much to move up in the poll and didn’t disappoint to move down. We’ll keep them at 23 until the prove otherwise.
24. Oklahoma State: 9-5 (last week 20)
No shame in losing to UCLA in Dodger Stadium over the weekend but the Cowboys will need to start showing some more quality wins to remain in the poll.
25. South Carolina: 13-3 (last week unranked)
The Gamecocks early season opponents have not been that impressive excluding the series with Clemson. But they keep winning and deserve a peek into the poll. The upcoming series with UGa will show what this team is made of.

Dropped out:
Cal State Fullerton: 6-7 (last week 15)
Losing to undefeated Arizona State is not awful but losing to New Mexico twice is not a great way to stay ranked. The Titans tumble all the way out and will have to go on a serious winning streak to get back in. Beating USC mid-week along with a weekend sweep of James Madison may not be enough to creep back in just yet.

Georgia Tech: 10-6 (last week 19)
The Jackets will need to start winning more consistently and after losing two of three games to Miami to open ACC play, not a good showing for GT.

Duke: 11-5 (last week 21)
Losing two mid-weeks to Penn following a split with UVa on the weekend. Sorry Duke, but March is still your month for basketball.

Others on the verge of breaking in. (Alphabetical order)
Auburn (14-2), Illinois (10-3), Miami, Fla. (12-3), Texas (12-6) UC Irvine (9-4), USD (12-4)
