2019 Cal State Omaha Poll – Week 5

There is a new No. 1 this week and lots of moving around in the rest of the poll.

Mississippi State moves up big with a road series win over Florida who subsequently dropped out of the poll. Another big mover includes Arizona State remaining the only undefeated team after NC State lost to Florida State this weekend.

South Carolina, Oklahoma State and the previously mentioned Florida all moved out and made room for Texas, Auburn and Oklahoma to debut in the poll.

Records are through games completed March 17th.

1. UCLA: 14-4 (last week 2)
Taking two of three from the defending national champions gets you to the top of our poll.

Beavers lost two of three in LA to the Bruins and hold steady.
5. Vanderbilt: 15-5 (last week 1)
Vandy boys traveled down to College Station and lost the series looking rather vulnerable in Sunday’s game
6. Florida State: 14-4 (last week 3)
Kudos to the Seminoles for handing NC State their first defeat of the season but losing the weekend series drops FSU a few notches.

Still undefeated. What else can you ask for?

13. Ole Miss: 14-6 (last week 9)
Losing two mid-week games to Louisville and a split at home vs. Alabama drops the Rebels.

Perfect game over the weekend and the Pirates sweep Maryland in their own yard.

Sooners debut in the poll after winning the home series vs. Missouri State

Dropped out:

Florida: 15-7 (last week 20)
The Gators have been a huge disappointment all season and losing the home opening series vs. Mississippi State demonstrates that the Gators were overrated to start.

South Carolina: 14-6 (last week 25)
Barely in last week and then swept to open conference play is not a recipe to stay ranked.

Oklahoma State: 12-6 (last week 24)
You can’t sweep Southeastern Louisiana in your own yard? You deserve to fall out of the top 25.

Others on the verge of breaking in. (Alphabetical order)
Illinois (13-3), Miami, Fla. (15-5), UC Irvine (12-4), UC Santa Barbara (14-3), USD (14-6)
